Functionalism and Behaviorism

Functionalism in philosophy of mind can be understood as a sophisticated form of philosophical behaviorism. In Functionalism a thought is defined by a function it plays, whereas in Behaviorism a thought is defined by a set of behaviors and/or dispositions to behave.
A thought incorporates its influence on other thoughts and it is not understood strictly by a set of behaviors and/or dispositions to behave. The difference between Functionalism and Behaviorism is that the thought has the function of influencing other thoughts not only behaviors.
